Therapy Thoughts

Comparing yourself to others…good or bad?

We all compare ourselves to others! Even those who say they don’t, are doing so, in the very act of saying that they don’t.

It certainly is useful to give us a guide as to what we could perhaps do, how we could improve, or to build our self esteem when we compare favourably.

BUT…use with caution.

Too much comparing, constantly puts us on guard. Too much comparing makes life a race.

Furthermore constant comparing, can affect your overall happiness.

Sonja Lyubomirsky, a psychology professor at University of California, who has made happiness her study, has found that how much we compare ourselves to others, and how much we care about what people think, is a big factor in personal happiness

So, as I said before... compare with caution.

Have a nice week.
